Joy and sadness
1862
31st March Sarah Ann gives birth to her second son Henry James Ready.
2nd June Sarah Ann’s husband Peter Ready dies on the Victorian goldfields after falling down a mine shaft(96a)
1863
15th September
Sydney Morning Herald Page 2 Central Police Court(97)
“and in the 7th the defendant Hannah Samuels was found guilty of having assaulted Isabella Kerrigan and sentenced to pay 10 Shillings penalty or to be imprisoned 3 days”
Henry William (23) marries Jane Whallay(98 98a)
Sarah Ann (Ready) marries George Moore
1864
17th June Hannah makes her Will(99).
30th June Hannah dies aged 57 or 59(99a) at home in Sussex Street Sydney and was buried with Henry in the churchyard of St Stephens Church Newtown(100).
1st July The Empire(101) publishes Hannah’s death notice suggesting she died on the 1st July
Apparently Ellen (18) was living at Sussex Street, and possibly, so too was James Charles (22).
The final twist to Hannah’s story is only revealed in her Death Certificate(102). Hannah gave birth to a son. There is no mention of a name anywhere and the assumption is he died soon after birth. What adds to the confusion is the likelihood that 1829 would be the ideal year for Hannah to have had another child!
23rd July Probate granted(103)
Hannah’s estate of 300 Pounds is entrusted to her Executor Jabez Brown as is his guardianship of Ellen “during her minority”. Interestingly the estate is divided equally between the lovely legged Louisa, wife of the said Jabez Brown, and her youngest sister Ellen.
One final question: Why include Louisa but none of her other children?
